We often joke with the audience at our company seminars that our typical client has one Range Rover and 25 hard working Skoda Octavia Estates!
If you look at the last 50 reviews we’ve done, the above isn’t too far out. Except the Range Rover is more likely to be a PHEV or a Tesla now. The workers are still in diesel Skoda’s though…
If you’re not one of the lucky 5%* or less who can afford a BEV this year, your position is about to get a lot worse.
So let’s take the Skoda Octavia estate 1.6TD SE (115PS). This is currently (under NEDC correlated) 103g/km but goes up to 135g/km from 6 April under WLTP. This increases the BIK percentage from 28% to 34% (a 21% increase overnight!), which means that you will now pay tax on 136% of the List Price of that car over a four year term.
Please don’t misunderstand. We believe in the road to zero. But Government policy is pushing the average CO2 up not down. We need pragmatic solutions right now for the cars people actually can afford.
