Sunday afternoon I took advantage of Genesis’s excellent test drive program and had a fantastic fling with a G80 “electrified”.

I know they aren’t fashionable, but I’ve a soft spot for big saloons. Years back I owned a couple of large German saloons, one after another, and loved them all. The Genesis feels like the modern interpretation, the EV Jaguar might have built in the 2010s.

Highlights? Performance. Build quality. Toys that just work, including an “idrive” controller that was intuitive and kept my eyes on the road rather than the touch screen. There’s two solar panels on the roof that extend range. Ride comfort. And performance. (I know that’s performance twice, but wow. Talk about a mailed fist in a velvet glove. I know there’s even faster EVs, but that’s like saying there’s stronger drinks than absinth)

The negatives? Not much really, there’s not much foot room in the back for a car that’s otherwise so spacious, and although the list price seems reasonable some of the option packs are a little eye-watering.
