I’ve just been reading that Porsche are considering coupe and convertible variants of the Taycan EV. This is the same week that VW said it was thinking about a convertible ID3.
What do we think about a convertible EV?
As a rule EVs are heavier because of their batteries and convertibles tend to be heavier than coupes because of the extra bracing to keep the body stiff sans roof. How heavy will a convertible EV need to be, and what will that mean for handling?
The big issue though surely is the sound? I’ve never understood diesel convertibles. The great joy of driving roof down on a summer’s day is, arguably, the soundtrack of a decent petrol engine? That said in an EV you’d really hear everything else wouldn’t you?
What do you think? Would you buy a convertible Taycan or ID3?
