After achieving a record UK market share of 26% in December, BEV registrations as a proportion of all new cars fell back to 12.5% in January 2022 according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). That compares to 6.9% in January 2021.

This was the first month the percentage market share for BEV had not risen since Summer 2021.

At 57.7%, petrol and mild hybrid petrol had the highest market share in January, only slightly down on the 59.5% of January a year ago.

Diesel (and mild hybrid diesel) was the main loser at 10.2%, up from 8.4% in December but down year on year from 19.2%.
