HRUX is pleased to share the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) new car registration data for July.

Overall volumes remain depressed at 112,162 units, down 9% from July 2021, and we continue to track towards less than 1.5m registrations for all of 2022, which would make this the worse year since the early 1990s

As is normal, the number of BEVs has increased year-on-year (at 12.2k). All other fuel types are down. However, BEV market-share was down on the 16.9% of June 2022 at 10.9%.

Diesels registered are actually up over last month at 11.9% which compares to an average of 10.5% market share over the previous 12 months.

As ever this points to a market where demand hugely outstrips supply, and this month diesels outsold BEV for the first time since August 2021. We wonder if this will be the last time this ever happens?
